What's going on in Miss Hicks' Class ....
Writing- In writing students have been working on informational text and writing biographies. Students have been working on biographies on a famous scientist of their choice. We will begin writing our famous Missourian writing piece next week. Students have also been working on ABC Alliteration books the last two weeks, during our Figurative Language Unit.
Reading- In reading we have been working on non-fiction text features, reading non-fiction text articles, main ideas and details, and researching non-fiction materials. Students have worked really hard on creating their animal research projects, please make sure to ask your child about their presentation.
Math- In math we have just started our fraction unit. Students have been working on equivalent fractions this week. If your child ever has a redo paper in their binder, please go over this with them and return it back to school. Don't forget about the new app that can help with your student's math assignments and homework pages.
Science/Social Studies- We completed our Rocks, Soil, and Minerals Unit in science last week. Students had a blast at our Rock Quarry field trip. We began our Westward Expansion unit in social studies this week and will continue this for the month of February. Students have chosen a Pioneer name and will complete their "westward traveling" experiences in their Pioneer journals. Our Jefferson City field trip will be on Wednesday, May 17.
