I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and created many happy memories with family and friends! I just wanted to share some quick updates on what we are doing this month in 4th grade!
Math- We will begin our Fractions Unit next week in math. Fractions are a HUGE area in 4th grade. Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child as we will use our multiplication facts with fractions.
Writing- We are starting my favorite kind of writing this quarter, Informational Writing! Your child has been researching an animal from the tropical rain forest this week. They will begin research and writing on a famous Missourian of their choice. Next week, we will do an activity where they will be able to bring in some supplies such as felt, fabric, yarn, etc to create a 'Flat Stanley' of their famous Missourian. We will then display their writing and person in the hallway.
Reading- We are working on nonfiction text structures in our reading. Students are working on cause/effect, problems and solutions, and sequencing during their reading.
Science- We started our first science lesson this week on Weathering and Erosion. The kids are super excited about this topic and about becoming young scientists. We will be doing several hands on experiments throughout the quarter.
